“When we were in the studio, all of us, including our producer Rick Rubin, were focused on proving that there was still creativity in what we could do, and that we’re not just going after easy money,” says our Tony. “A lot of hard work and passion went into those songs, and when you get someone like Metal Hammer telling you that you’ve made the best album of the year…well, you just can’t stop grinning with pride!”
On the band’s upcoming UK dates, the guitarist adds, “Right now, I don’t know what we will do in the set for those dates. But we will try to make them memorable. There will be some of the new songs, and as it’s Xmas, well, you can never tell who might join us on stage!”
Of this month’s cover star, the mighty Lemmy, Tony has some rather, um, unique memories.
We’ve gone on the road together so often. We’ve had some fun times. I remember on one occasion, Lemmy came into our dressing room with a birthday cake for me. But it wasn’t Lemmy as you’d expect to see him. He had on a black dress, stockings and high heels and was wearing make-up. He looked a right sight. Did I fancy him?! You’re joking! It’s still Lemmy! He is a one-off. We will never see his like again.”
Luckily, the one we’ve already got has promised us he ain’t going anywhere yet, confirming last week that despite a minor health scare, he’ll be back and firing on all cylinders very soon. Which is nice.
